Craig Chaquico's notes on Four Corners
Not far from San Francisco, near Mill Valley where my studio
is located among the redwoods, there is a rural intersection
the locals call Four Corners.
It is in this area that you can still find trails that are
hundreds, maybe thousands of years old, that were once used by the
indigenous tribes as well as the early pioneers, drifters, and
environmentalists.
Bordered by these ancient trails, this intersection can lead you
either north to the summit of Mount Tam, westward to Muir Woods
and the Pacific Ocean, south to the Golden Gate Bridge
and the beautiful city of San Francisco, or east in the direction
of my studio in Mill Valley just a few minutes away.
People and places from all four directions have inspired
the music on this CD. Maybe every place has a Four Corners.
Perhaps all of us are forever connected to each other and to
every river and ocean, every tree and forest, to our mother earth,
and to every star in the sky.
"As in music, so in life."
Another inspiration for this album is the spirit and energy
that still exists in magical ancient places like
the Four Corners area of the Southwest, Red Rocks,
and within the music of the four inspiring musicians
that make up the four cornerstones of my band.
ThereFOUR, hoping not to have sounded too CORNY,
this record is called "Four Corners."
"When we try to pick out anything by itself
we find it hitched to everything in the universe."
--John Muir, 1911
"I only went out for a walk
and finally concluded to stay out till sundown,
for going out, I found, was really going in."
--John Muir, 1913
